FAN LETTER TO YOU ABOUT ME
Letter, stickers remake Pink Panther Koons.
The Fan letter was posted to Mr Koons August 2007....still waiting for reply.

FAN LETTER TO YOU ABOUT ME

Dear Mr Koons,

I am a fan of your work. You are so far away yet I happen to read something about you, somewhere, every month. It repeatedly reminds me of the reason to kick start my serious interest in international contemporary art: The sculpture Pink Panther at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. It was in 2006, I was visiting my Polish uncle in one of the suburbs, they had lived there for 2 years working illegal as carpenters, but only once been downtown Chicago.

America is big indeed !

My name is Anna, I graduated one year ago from the art academy in Oslo, Norway where I, for the time being, live and work. I have just received an art grant, I live in one of the richest countries in the world and I love working with art and are 50/50 happy/unhappy. I can pretty much divide my life in matching dark sides/bright sides, helped by time it always seem to equal out. Still, I want more. This is certainly not an original feeling, but an strong one, hard to ignore and one of the main reasons why I am writing this letter.

My country is, in many ways, a goodiebag, but still I feel extremely far away from the international art road and everything that comes down it. With today’s super duper technology you could argue that far away does not exist anymore, the way it used to in the old days. But I can confirm that it does. A physical absence feels the the same as far far away from me.

”Fan letter to you about me” is a work in progress, this letter being part of it. There is a fine line between functioning as a great inspiration/mentoring and paralyzing magnificent, hitting hard on a young artists self esteem. One time I got so jealous that my head felt like exploding, and I wanted to eliminate your work from the art history.

The Star and the fan need each other to support their own artistic existence. The Star can not be to kind too his fan, risking the fan will overcome his position and genius. But to keep the position as mentor and core of inspiration he or she should give something of him, or herself to the fan.The fan, on the other hand, must not be too aggressive in obtaining wisdom, attention, affection, and use the work of The Star in his or her own work. Then he or she can risk being pushed away and loose his or her opportunity to learn and get inspired (from the book: Old wisdom).

Sending a letter to The Star make me feel closer to something, or someone that is visible to all the people of today. Constructing this postal connection make me feel less as a North European outsider. It makes me smile, hence I write, and hence I try to play some international cards. Me and my friend has recently started a home run gallery called Planka, witch means the plank. You are of course more than welcome to show your work at Planka

I would be really happy and honored if you could return the envelope of this letter, with or without response, in that way I know it has been to America !

Best regards, Anna
